Well, we all know the answer to that question: BECAUSE SHE’S A WOMAN!
Even President Biden weighed in: “Right now we’re seeing that even if you’re the best, women are not paid their fair share,” he said, in a NY Times article by Neil Vigdor.
“It’s time that we give our daughters the same opportunities as our sons and ensure women are paid what they deserve.”
Indeed, Mr. President… our daughters, mothers, sisters, aunts, on and off the basketball court need to be paid what we deserve. My question is, who exactly can right this wrong?
In my column, What Makes A Great Boss, I wrote about an inequitable situation I was experiencing at work years ago. Shortly after a new leader took over our department, he walked into my office and said, “You know you have men reporting to you who make more money than you,” he told me, shaking his head in disbelief, as he stood in my doorway. “That’s so wrong…we have to fix this!”
Of course, I knew! From former department heads to HR, everyone knew, but no one ever said or did anything about it… including me. This was 35 years ago…a different time to be sure. He did fix it…went to the mat for me without my even asking.
Where the "eff" are these champions of women? It’s swell that men and women alike are outraged over the disparity in Caitlin Clark’s salary…but when does outrage turn into action, not just in Caitlin’s case but for all women!
Enough already!
