Danica Smith

The Global Revenue Forum (GRF) 2025, held in London on January 30, centered on one of the most pressing topics in hospitality today: how AI and emerging technologies are reshaping revenue management. With an overarching theme of "Unlock the Future of Profit," industry experts, hoteliers, and revenue strategists gathered to discuss the future of hospitality in an increasingly tech-driven landscape.

AI, Data, and the Digital Future

🚀 AI Assistants & Digital Twins The concept of digital twins—AI-powered replicas capable of booking flights, managing schedules, and even drafting content—is inching closer to reality. But here’s the big question: how do marketers engage with your digital twin? The rise of AI-driven decision-making is poised to disrupt customer engagement and advertising as we know it.

📊 AI is Only as Good as Your Data Building an effective AI infrastructure is no overnight feat—it’s a 5–8-year journey that hinges on high-quality data and a clear strategic vision. The old adage still rings true: it’s all about data, data, data!

🤖 The Evolving Role of Managers Leadership in the AI era isn’t just about managing people anymore. Today’s leaders need to interpret data, adapt quickly, and delegate strategically to AI—understanding what to automate and what requires the irreplaceable human touch.

Key Industry Stats That Stood Out

  • 33% of employees say their Property Management System (PMS) influenced their decision to leave a job.

  • 73% of travelers seek experiences reflecting local culture.

  • 4% ADR growth and 2% occupancy growth in Europe (2024).

  • 2.5 million hotel rooms in the global pipeline—420,000 in Europe.

  • 140,000 empty rooms in the UK every night—highlighting opportunities for initiatives like Room to Reward, a charity repurposing vacant hotel rooms for good causes.

AI and Leadership: What’s Next?

Danie Lulme, CEO of Satalia, opened the conference with a deep dive into AI singularities, quantum computing, exponential data, and even DNA computing. His session highlighted the growing role of AI in business strategy and the ongoing challenge of attracting and retaining top AI talent—a costly yet crucial investment.

“At a hotel I worked at, a wedding group wanted to block 20 rooms. The data suggested we should do it, but I knew from my interactions with the couple that they absolutely hated each other. I refused the booking—and sure enough, the wedding never happened!”

Adrienne Hanna, Founder & CEO of Right Revenue, offered one of the most memorable insights of the day:“At a hotel I worked at, a wedding group wanted to block 20 rooms. The data suggested we should do it, but I knew from my interactions with the couple that they absolutely hated each other. I refused the booking—and sure enough, the wedding never happened!” Her point? AI can optimize pricing and forecasting, but it will never replace human intuition and experience.

New Distribution Channels & AI-Powered Pricing

Klaus from IdeaS shared how Instagram and WhatsApp are opening new direct booking channels, citing his own experience booking a remote Moroccan trip entirely via Instagram. The shift toward lifestyle and experience-driven accommodation is reshaping how hotels attract guests.

Revenue management isn’t just about selling rooms anymore—it’s about leveraging AI for dynamic pricing. Hotels are now making up to 5 million pricing decisions per day, making AI a necessity, not a luxury.

Friend or Foe? The Rise of Alternative Accommodations

During the “Friend or Foe” panel, Sally Henry from Key Data shared compelling stats on the rise of short-term rentals:

  • 50% more inventory is entering the market.

  • Demand for short-term stays in the UK is up 12.4% since 2019.

With 85% of travelers saying emotional connections influence their likelihood to return, hotels must rethink their offerings.

📈 Trends to watch:

  • Water-centric travel (think floating hotels and aquatic experiences).

  • Sleep tourism (premium rest-focused retreats).

  • Astrology-inspired stays, with The Standard London rolling out monthly Zodiac retreats.

Hector from Unplugged.rest added an ironic twist: his entire business model revolves around digital detox stays, yet all his marketing relies on social media and influencers. A testament to how technology shapes—even in opposition—the guest experience.

Final Thoughts: AI’s Role in the Future of Hospitality

GRF 2025 reinforced a clear message: AI is the new electricity—it doesn’t replace the industry; it powers it. Success in the AI era will come down to interpreting, adapting, and executing AI-driven strategies while ensuring human creativity remains at the heart of hospitality.

The future of revenue management isn’t just about numbers—it’s about bold innovation, strategic AI adoption, and a purpose beyond the P&L.
