Business, Women, and Random Trends: The White-collar Recession Means There Are Fewer $100K Jobs — and Women are Landing Them More Often Than Men Starting with GOOD NEWS, according to Business Insider, despite a hiring slump for high-paying professional roles, women are securing more than half of positions while making up less than half of the applicant pool. This trend is observed across various regions including Asia, Europe, the Middle East, South America, and the US, where women represented 49% to 52% of hires for six-figure jobs while accounting for only 41% to 44% of applicants. Ultimately, she concludes it comes down to cultural expectations for working mothers, and less about policy. Suddenly There Aren’t Enough Babies The Wall Street Journal reports fertility is falling almost everywhere, for women across all levels of income, education and labor-force participation. The falling birthrates come with huge implications for the way people live, how economies grow and the standings of the world’s superpowers. Really compelling data and lots to think about.
